Morning

Begin with twenty minutes of solo creative practice before checking messages or engaging with others.

Work

Structure your day to include at least one truly collaborative creative session where you're making something together.

Relationships

Invest in your creative community as deliberately as you invest in your work. The people you make with are co creators.

Rest

Your rest needs to include both solitude and social warmth. Alternate between these because one without the other will leave you drained.

Rhythm Builder

What your values say. What your hours show.

The Rhythm Builder asks seven questions about how you actually spent your recent days, then compares your pattern to the daily rhythms of 14 historical figures. You see where your values and your hours line up, and where they don't, so you can start adjusting the parts that feel off.

The philosophy

What is Ikigai

Start from your everyday experience. Ikigai is a Japanese concept meaning "a reason for being." It lives at the intersection of what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what sustains you. It is not a destination so much as a daily practice of noticing and returning to what already matters.

Love

What you love doing, the activities and experiences that light you up from within.

Gift

What you are naturally good at, the skills and talents that feel almost effortless.

Need

What the world needs from you, the contribution that gives your life its deeper meaning.

Sustain

What sustains you, the structures and rhythms that keep your life in balance.

The framework draws on decades of Japanese scholarship, beginning with Mieko Kamiya's foundational work in 1966, and has been validated by longitudinal studies linking a strong sense of Ikigai to greater longevity, resilience, and life satisfaction.
